“…difference is accumulated not as a whole constituted from discrete elements but rather as a subsumption to the sameness of self-identity.”

Vivian Sobchack “‘At the Still Point of the Turning World’: Metamorphing and Meta-stasis”

This project examines motion blur detection, a technique used to interpolate between sequential images, simulating the effect of an object or camera moving quickly. In Transitions, these algorithms are repurposed and pushed to their limit when applied to a non-contiguous sequence: portraits of British Prime Ministers from 1721 to the present day. The series shows a search for continuity, where each pixel attempts to find its twin in a completely different image.
