The Terminal Man

Summary: Retro Futurism. Date: May 2009
Work done: Modelling (Maya/Zbrush), lighting, texturing, animation, rendering, 2D compositing.
Format: Full HD Duration: 6 seconds Completion time: 5 days

I picked up a secondhand book recently - a 1973 edition of The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton. I spent a couple of days remembering how to use Zbrush and battling with exporting usable displacement maps into Maya. The result is the Charlton Heston-esque disembodied head. Once I had that sorted, I mastered wave deformers in Maya and added the streaming wires behind the head. Finally, I spent a day or two with After Effects, playing a lot with fractal noise, masks and text effects (which I later binned). Still, fun project.
