Demo-Graphics started off as a proposal for an interactive installation that creates a rolling 3D visualisation of audience engagement: participants respond to a set of statements, and their responses are fed into a 3D scene containing 25 office chairs. Each chair stacks to reflect an individual’s response.
En masse, the chairs depict group trends, creating a tongue-in-cheek reponse to the conflict between the individual and the collective. The piece looked at the interplay between individual and group desires and was an attempt to slightly subvert the dry conventions of statistical visualisations. A shorter project - it took me four days of playing around and expanding a scene I already had. I also attempted to make a soundtrack for the animation, which is a first for me! The idea is based around an interactive artwork proposal I submitted for a digital art festival in Liverpool last year. The proposal was accepted, but unfortunately poor planning on behalf of the organisers meant that I just didn’t have enough time to execute the piece. At least that’s what I said in the proposal.
