Cosmograms

This project consisted of a series of experiments with various papers and materials in an attempt to fake NASA images of deep space. Using printer ink, detergent, spices, dirt, soot and sand, I found a set of processes that could approximate the kind of image we’re used to seeing from the Hubble Telescope.

The idea of an infinite universe - and thus of infinite views of that universe - spurred me on to continue creating images, vainly (or not) hoping that the images I created might have correspondents in real space. In a sense I was attempting a paradox: to document the unseen.
